Optical Line Terminal (OLT) Core of Optical Access Network

Choosing an OLT optical module involves many considerations. The distance to the ONUs is a key factor. For short-distance connections (e.g., within a building), a low-cost multi-mode optical module may be sufficient. For greater distances, single-mode modules with higher power budgets are required. The data rate also matters; if the network is to host services requiring high-speed access, 10 Gbps or greater, a module with matching speed capabilities needs to be selected. Also, the OLT must ensure that other module’s settings as well as peripheral devices, and the entire subnet, are taken into account.
