Analyzing the power output of RRUs reveals the differences in the performance of different RRUs. An RRU’s power output limits the distance the radio-frequency signal can travel and the signal strength mobile devices can receive. In comparing RRUs, maximum power output, power-adjustment range, and power efficiency at different levels of output are considered. For larger area coverage high power output may be necessary, whereas, for more confined applications energy efficiency becomes the priority. This evaluation helps to choose the RRU best tailored to specific network requirements.
